The diagonal of a square of side length L is 2 inches long when?
When the side = sqrt(2) in
the diagonal forms the hypotenuse of a right triangle and two sides of the square are the legs.....therefore.....by the Pythagorean Theorem,
sqrt [ (sqrt(2)^2) + ( sqrt(2))^2 ] = sqrt[2 + 2] = sqrt(4) = 2 = diagonal length
