Protein is an important component of a healthy diet. It builds muscles, bones, and cartilage.
Children should eat around 35 grams of protein each day. As part of a class project, Mr. Dobbs
had his students track the amount of protein they ate in a day. On Monday. James ate 15 grams
of protein at breakfast. 10 grams of protein at lunch, and 15 grams of protein at dinner. On
Wedhesday, James skipped breakfast, ate 8 grams of protein at lunch, and 10 grams of protein
at dinner. On Friday, James ate 6 grams of protein at breakfast. 10 grams of protein at lunch,
and 12 grams of protein at dinner. On which day(s) did James meet or exceed the Recommended Daily Allowance for
protein? On Saturday James ate a total of 26 grams of protein with dinner time approaching. He
wants to go to Sally's Pizza, which makes the best pizza in town. A sice of pizza at Sally's
has 9 grams of protein. How many slices of pizza should he buy if he wants to try to eat
enough protein for the day?
On Monday, James ate a total of 15 + 15 + 10 = 30 + 10 = 40 grams of protein. On Wednesday, James ate a total of 8 + 10 = 18 grams of protein. On Friday, James ate a total of 6 + 10 + 12 = 6 + 22 = 28 grams of protein. The only day given that had james eat meet or exceeded the Recommended Daily Allowance for protein was Wednesday.
35 - 26 = 9 grams of protein left to eat. Since each slice of pizza at Sally's has 9 protein, he will need to buy at least \(\frac{9}{9} = \boxed{1}\) slice of pizza at Sally's
if he wants to try to eat enough protein for the day.
