The length of a rectangle is 4 meters more than three times its width.  The perimeter of the rectangle is 56 meters.  What is the width?

P = 2L + 2w

18.4 = 2(3w+4) + 2w

18.4 = 6w + 8 + 2w

18.4 = 8w + 8

10.4 = 8w

w = 10.4/8 = 1.3

L = 3(1.3)+4 = 3.9 + 4 = 7.9

I hope that answers what you are looking for! cheeky

w + 3w + 4 = 56/2

4w + 4 = 28

4w = 24

w = 6  smiley

Hold up, I accidentally did the wrong perimeter. If you plug in 56 instead of 18.4, you will get the answer! Sorry about the inconvinience!
