If a recipe for a two-pound cake requires 1.5 cups of flour, how many cups are needed for 12 one-pound cakes?

i think the answer is 9. 

since the 1.5 cups of flour is for 2 pound cakes, then you can just multiply 2x6= 12 and 1.5x6=9, so there are 9 cups of flour in 12 ONE pound cakes 

 

another way to solve it is you can divde 1.5 by 2. you will get 0.75. then you multiply 0.75 (aka value of one pound cake) by 12 and you get 9. 

 

other person had a different answer but this is just my explaination of the problem

since a two-pound cake requires 1.5 cups of flower, a one-pound cake would take 0.75 cups of flower.

0.75*12=9
