easy peasy . . . 625 + 225  =  850     

 

Do you know the quick way to find the square of a number that ends with a 5?     

 

Let "n" represent an integer:  To square n5     

set the 5 off to the side and change it to 25,        n                 25     

add 1 to n, and multiply them together,                n (n+1)        25     

bring the 25 back to the product n (n+1).     

 

example:           square 35                                    3           25     

                                                                              3 • 4      25     

                                                                              1225     

 

                           square 85                                    8           25     

                                                                               8 • 9      25     

                                                                               7225
