Connor wants to use the Fermi process to estimate the number of oranges that would fill his kitchen. As part of the process, he needs to estimate the volume of a typical orange. The diameter of an orange is about 3 in.

Which estimate best approximates the volume of the orange?

1×100 in³

1×101 in³

Volume of sphere = 4/3 x pi x r^3, where r = radius

Radius =3/2 = 1.5 inches

V =4/3 x 3.141592 x 1.5^3

V = ~14 in^3. This is closest to 10^1 =10 - or the 2nd choice on your list.
