The middle school golf team is selling golf balls to raise $850 for new equipment. They sell golf balls for two dollars each. A case has 24 packs of golf balls. Each pack has six golf balls. How many cases of golf balls does the team need to sell to raise enough money for new equipment.
The quick equation for this is as follows:
x=850/(2*6*24)
x=850/288
x=2.95, rounded up to x=3
Basically you calculate how many golf balls are in a case (24*6) and then multiply this by the price per golf ball which gives you the price per case.
Since you know they need to raise 850 you simply divide it by the value per case, the reverse of price*quantity=revenue and you have the number of cases.
Hope it helps,
Cheers
