A map has a scale of 1 cm : 8 km. If two cities are 18 cm apart on the map, what is the actual distance between the cities, to the nearest tenth of a kilometer? I also need to know how to convert scale drawings (ex. above) Thanks!

OK.....the SCALE tells you how far things are on the map in 'scaled' fashion....in this case it says every CM on the map is equal to 18 KILOMETERS in the real world.

So, if it is 18 cm on the map it is  18 TIMES 18 KILOMETERS in the real world....   324 km   or 324.0 km to the nearest tenth

Sorry.....I misread the scale as 1:18 in my original post....the question say 1cm=8km    I fixed this error and hope it did not confuse you !!
