During competition, a figure skater must skate a figure 8 twice. The figure 8 is made up of 2 identical circles, each with radius 1.2 m.

a) What is the distance around each of these circles?
b) Find the total distance the figure skater has to skate for the competition

Two figure 8's would be 4 circles

a)  circumference ( distance around the circle ) =  pi * diameter = pi * 2 * radius

           = pi * 2 * 1.2 m = ........... m

 

b)  use answer from a)    multiply by 4 to find the distance in the four circles......
