Michael has a jar with 24 coins. three eighths of the coins are U.S. coins. The rest of the coins are foreign coins. Michael adds 12 U.S. coins to the jar.

a. What fraction of the coins in the jar are foreign coins now?

Michael continues to add U.S. coins to the jar.

b. How many more U.S. coins must Michael add to the jar so that one eighth of the coins are foreign coins?

3/8 x 24 = 9 coins out of 24 are US

     add 12 coins....now  9 out of 36 coins are US     9/36= 1/4

B.    9/(36 +x) = 1/8     solve for x.....the amount to add
