what is a x and y intercept?

When you have a graph of a line,

the y intercept (or y-axis intercept) is where the line crosses the y-axis (this is where x=0)

   the x-intercept (or x-axis intercept) is where the line crosses the x-axis (this is where y=0)

 

So if you have an equation of a line i the form of y=mx+b    Just put x=0 to find the y intercept

    and put y=0 to find the x-intercept.
