Area of rectangle = L * W

Given   :   L = 2W +1

Substitute

2W+1 * W = 28 ft^2

2W^2 +W - 28 = 0

Use Quadratic Formul to find   W =  14/4  or -4   (toss out the -4)

         L = 2W + 1 = 2(14/4) + 1 = 8

L * W  =  8 * 14/4 = 28

Area =2 x [L + W]
Width =W
Length =2W + 1
28 = 2 x [W + 2W + 1]
28 = 2 x [3W + 1]
28 = 6W + 2                 Subtract 2 from both sides
26 = 6W                       Divide both sides by 6
W = 26 / 6 = 4 1/3 - feet - the width of the rectangle
[2 * 4  1/3] + 1   = 9 2/3 - feet - the length of the rectangle.
