Nicole earned a score of 565 on Exam A that had a mean of 650 and a standard deviation of 50. She is about to take Exam B that has a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. How well must Nicole score on Exam B in order to do equivalently well as she did on Exam A? Assume that scores on each exam are normally distributed.

z-score  =  ( score - mean ) / (standard deviation )

Exam A:  z-score  =  ( 565 - 650 ) / 50  =  -1.7

To do as well on Exam B, she'll need the same z-score:

Exam B:  -1.7  =  ( score - 50 ) / 10

--->           -17  =  score - 50

--->            33  =  score
