A circular ring has a cross-section as shown (left). If the outer radius is 22 mm and the inner radius 20 mmm, calculate the cross-sectional area of the ring. 
 

do we get it this way:
pi 22^2 = 484 pi
pi 20^2 =400 pi
then subtract them?
or is this wrong????

Yes, that is correct....subtract the smaller from the larger area to get the area betweem them.
