Forget the decimal.........take the whole part [815]  and subtract the non-repeating part [81]  =

 

[815 - 81]    = 734      this will be the numerator of our fraction

 

For the denominator........wrrite the same number of 9s as we have repeating digits........there is one repeating digit, so write one 9. To this.....append the same number of 0s  as non-repeating digits.  We have two non-repeating digits, so we will have two 0s.  So....our fraction is:

 

734 / 900.........   check to see that this =  0.815   [5s  repeating ]
