Juan is constructing a doghouse. He needs four pieces of plywood that are 2 ft  Times 3 ft rectangles. He needs two pieces of plywood that are 2 ft  Times 2 ft squares. If the plywood comes in 4 ft Times 8 ft sheets what is the minimum number of sheets of plywood Juan will need

4( 2 * 3)   = 24sq ft

 

And

 

2(2 * 2)  = 8 sq ft

 

So he needs 32 sq ft in total.....and there are 32 sq ft in one sheet.....so....he only needs one

Cut the sheet down the middle lengthwise so you have two pieces that are 2 x 8

Then cut each 8 foot pieces into one 2 ft and two 3 foot pieces

He needs one sheet.

4 (2 x 3)  + 2 (2 x 2)     = 32 sq ft     the sheet is 4 x 8 = 32 sq ft
