I cut and pasted the exact question into the calculator.

It may not be the intended question but it is the question that was asked!

People should learn to use brackets properly and ask the question that they intend.

Dividing by one on the second term is pointless: .75x/1 should be .75x

.08=.75x-.75x well... .75x-.75x is 0. Did you copy this right?

Yes i copied it correctly i also keep getting 0 but the answer sheet for the finance class it is for says x equals 0.0988 so i want to know how they got that answer...

So its 0.08=0.75x divided by 1 then take away 0.75?

I think we have.....

.08 = [(.75x)/(1- .75x)]   subtract the expression from the right hand side to set the expression = 0  .....and using the on-site solver, we have......

$${\mathtt{0.08}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}\left({\frac{{\mathtt{0.75}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{x}}}{\left({\mathtt{1}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{0.75}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{x}}\right)}}\right) = {\mathtt{0}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{x}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{8}}}{{\mathtt{81}}}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{x}} = {\mathtt{0.098\: \!765\: \!432\: \!098\: \!765\: \!4}}$$

or maybe we have

.08=0.75x/1-.75x

$${\mathtt{0.08}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{0.75}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{x}}}{{\mathtt{1}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{0.75}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{x}} \Rightarrow \left\{ \begin{array}{l}\end{array} \right\}$$

The empy parentheses indicate that this is an empty set.   There are NO solutions.

I doubt  that is correct, Melody...there is no purpose in writing the first fraction on the right side of the equation over 1......besides, the poster claims that the answer on his sheet was the same as I got......
