how do i do a 2 step liner equation

A linear equation is in the form, y=mx+b , where the x and y pair designate a point on a graph. "Linear" means that the graph is a straight line. The m and the b also have meanings.

So, for example, 4=2x-3 is a linear equation.

im notreally sure. i have an asianmaths teacher who has a very strong accent in which i cannot understand. we started on 1 step and one of the equations was x-8=4
