(3.9 x 10^2)(2.3 x 10^6) = 897,000,000

how do I get this answer in scientific notation ?

$$(3.9 *10^2)(2.3 * 10^6)\\
=3.9*2.3*10^2*10^6\\
=3.9*2.3*10^{2+6}\\
=3.9*2.3*10^8\\
=8.97*10^8$$

Divide by a power of ten to make the number in between 0 and 10. In this case, this is 8.97, and 10^8. Just multily them together.

8.97*10^8

897,000,000 = 897,000,000.

Write the non-zero part of the number and put a decimal after the first non-zero digit of this....so we have....

8.97 .......and we will multiply this by 10 raised to some power

Now, we would have to move the decimal eight places to the right to return the original number....and this is the exponent (power) that we will put on 10 in our multiplication....so we have....

8.97 x 108
