You can't really. Unless you have a graphing calculator, you'll just have to turn it into a decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator.
\(3\frac{1}{2}+1\frac{5}{7}\)
would be entered as
(3+1/2)+(1+5/7)=
(3+1/2)+(1+5/7) = 5.2142857142857143 = \(\frac{73}{14}\)
