How do I solve for x in 5(10 exponent x+1)=12

5·10x+1  =  12

Divide by 5:  10x+1  =  2.4

Take the log of both sides:  log(10x+1)  =  log(2.4)     --->     (x+1)log(10)  =  log(2.4)

Since log(10) = 1  and  log(2.4) = 0.3802 (approx)     --->     (x+1)(1)  =  0.3802

--->   x + 1  =  0.3802     --->   x  =  -0.6198  (approx)
