Solve for x:
2 (x+4) = 1-5 x

Subtract 1-5 x from both sides of 2 (x+4) = 1-5 x:
2 (x+4)-1-5 x = (1-5 x)-1-5 x

(1-5 x)-(1-5 x) = 0:
2 (x+4)-(1-5 x) = 0

2 (x+4) = 2 x+2 4:
2 x+2 4-(1-5 x) = 0

2×4  =  8:
-(1-5 x)+2 x+8 = 0

-(1-5 x) = -(-5 x)-1:
-(-5 x)-1+2 x+8 = 0

-(-5)  =  5:
5 x+2 x-1+8 = 0

Grouping like terms, 5 x+2 x-1+8 = (2 x+5 x)+(8-1):
(2 x+5 x)+(8-1) = 0

2 x+5 x = 7 x:
7 x+(8-1) = 0

8-1 = 7:

2(x+4)=-5x+1   distribute the 2 on the left over the terms in the parentheses

2x + 8 = -5x + 1     subtract 8 from both sides, add 5x to both sides

7x  = - 7       divide both sides by 7

x = -1
