Ex. 7 + 5 = 12. Both are positive.
Ex. -7 + 5 = -2. One is negative and is a larger negative, so the answer is negative.
Ex. -7 - 5 = -12. Note that we can rewrite this as -7 + (-5) = -12. We are actually adding two negatives so the answer is more negative.
Ex. -7 - (-5) = -2. Note, this is the same as -7 + 5 since double negatives = a positive.
Positive + positive = greater positive
Negative + negative = greater negative
Negaitve - negative = if the second negative is greater, then the answer will be positive. If the first number is the greater negative, then the answer will be negative.
