how do you add and subtract scientific notation

Make sure the exponents are the same!

 

For example \(2.8*10^3-1.4*10^3\)

 

Basically is 2800 - 1400

 

Since the exponents are the same, just do 2.8 - 1.4 = 1.4

 

\(1.4*10^3\)
