-50 = -2(a + 3)   divide both sides by -2

25 = a + 3          subtract 3 from both sides

22 = a

First, you would distribute -2 to both a and 3 and you would get -50=-2a-6 because you multiply -2*3 and a plus and minus equals a minus. Second, you would subtract 6 on both sides and you would get -56=-2a. Third, you would divide -2 on both sides and get 28=a and that is your answer.

That is wrong because you forgot to distribute the -2

I just divided by the -2 instead of distributing it.....check my answer...I think you'll see it's correct.....

Just so you know, CPhill and Melody rarely make mistakes (especially on easy questions, like this one) unless the question asker or others attempting to answer it have CDD –that is Contagious Dumbness Disease. There is at least one other on here who has it. They almost caught it from him.

This is a horrible disease – it is worse than cooties! Even if you are cured, many will think you still have it and avoid you like the plague. I caught it from someone, and though I am cured now, I have an antibody that causes nausea when I am around anyone that has it. That’s a good thing though, because it helps to keep me from becoming reinfected.

If CPhill or Melody get it and recover, they may avoid you because of the nausea inducing antibody. Similar to having doctors avoid you, it will take longer to find a cure. In the worst case, you may never find a cure; that means a lifetime of perpetual dumbness.

Nauseated - are you being nausiating AGAIN!

I wonder if there is an inoculation WE can get to protect us from your affliction?

BUT you are right CPhill does not make many mistakes and hopefully I don't either  LOL

It is good that TayJay questioned CPhill's answer.  Maybe the wording could have been a bit more tactful, but the important thing is that TayJay learned and this would not have happened if he/she did not comment on what was thought  to be an incorrect answer.

The equation resolved to 25 = a + 3 and CPhill clearly explains “ subtract 3 from both sides” showing that (a = 22)

This equation is just slightly above the 10 + 9 questions on here (just 1 number higher than the answer of 21), so it is a symptom CDD. So, you might see why I believe the disease is present.

I suppose doctors have to risk contracting the disease to help cure those who have it. CPhill demonstrated instant immunity here, but it always seems so risky.

Too bad there is not a cure for the nausea.

Try this

"Take 2 tsp (10ml) olive oil and one (5ml) of apple vinegar mix with a little water. It will help "

A clever person once told me of this remedy for nausea - i do not know if it works.  :))

He is clever. I have tried that, and it works well for nausea caused by hyper-stimulated proton pumps, producing excess acid indigestion, from high fat foods.

Treating post CDD nausea requires something that modifies the spatial perception processing areas of the brain. Many treatments only work for a short while.

Most scientists do not understand the mechanism of the contagion of CDD, or why it often produces nausea after it is cured. Some think it is a quantum state effect known as the “spooky dumbness at a distance” theory.
