cosine = adjacent side divided by hypotenuse

sine = opposite side divided by hypotenuse

tangent = opposite side divided by adjacent side

you are dealing with a right triangle.

the side opposite the 90 degree angle is the hypotenuse.

for example:

iif your triangle is ABC and angle C is the 90 degree angle, then cosine (A) is equal to the length of the side opposite angle A divided by the length of the hypotenuse which is the side opposite angle C.
