how do you simplify an expression with a division sign outside of parenthesis, like 18/(5+2^2) ????

 

Well, you start inside the bracket and do 2^2 first and you get 4,

18/(5+4). Again you work out the numbers in the bracket to the right and you get 9. So, it becomes 18/9=2, which is your answer.

Start with the Parenthasis first then when thats solved go on to the division
