If there is a varible, then if there it tells you, then you would add, subtract, multiply or divide. If the varible is right next to a number, then multiply. If there is no number in the varible, then just leave it. Like 2a + 3x, you would make it 5ax, because you left the varible. This example is something called Like terms.
