how do you solve for x+2=7 in algerbra     

 

The equal sign means you have to keep both sides equal.     

What you do to one side, you have to do to the other side.     

 

In this case                   x + 2 = 7     

 

you want the x to be by itself on one side.  There's a     

two over there so you have to subtract it.  When you     

subtract two from one side, you also have to subtract     

the same two from the other side.    

 

                                     x +2 – 2  =  7 – 2     

                                     x             =  5     

 

and there's your answer:  x = 5
