By 'solve' I will assume 'find the zeros'
A parabola is a graph of a quadratic equation (ax^2 + bx +c = 0)
you can factor the quadratic a lot of times to find the zeros : (x+3)(x-7) = 0 has zeros at x=-3 and x=+7
sometimes you need to use the Quadratic FORMULA to find the zeros (also called 'roots' BTW):
\(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)
Another option is to graph the equation and look at the points where it passes through the x-axis.
