By 'solve' I will assume 'find the zeros'

A parabola is a graph of a quadratic equation (ax^2 + bx +c = 0)

you can factor the quadratic a lot of times to find the zeros     :  (x+3)(x-7) = 0    has zeros at x=-3 and x=+7

sometimes you need to use the Quadratic FORMULA to find the zeros (also called 'roots' BTW):

      \(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)

Another option is to graph the equation and look at the points where it passes through the x-axis.
