(x - 1)2 = (2x + 7)2

Take square root of both sides.  There are two possibilities:

1.    x - 1 = 2x + 7    so  x = -8

2.    x - 1 = -(2x + 7)  so  x - 1 = -2x - 7  so  3x = -6  so x = -2

(x-2)^2 = (2x-7)^2

x^2-4x + 4 =4x^2 -28x +49

24x -45 =3x^2

3x^2 -24x + 45 =0

x^2 -8x +15 =0

(x -3) (x-5) =0

x -3=0 or x-5 =0

x=3     or  x=5

on that time, x has two answers. so that both them are suitable to value of x
