how dose regrouping help you add

Suppose you were required to add:

7 + 6 + 24 + 12 + 1

 

You could regroup as:

(7 + 12 + 1) + (6 + 24)

 

This is now easy to add in your head:

(20) + (30)

= 50  (Answer)
