Multiply it by hand on a piece of paper and you will see why. I don't expect you to do that, BUT you can multiply: 111 x 111=, and you will see the pattern.
Remember that multiplication is just glorified addition!!. In other words: 3 x 2 means: 3+3 or two times, or: 2+2+2, or three times.
