Two cars start from the same city at the same time. One travel 50 mi/h and the other 60 mi/h in the opposite direction how long will it take for them to be 300 miles apart give answers in hours and minutes and explain.

They are separating at (50 + 60) = 110 miles per hour relative to each other, so they will take (300miles/110miles per hour) = 300/110 hours to be 300 miles apart.

 

$${\frac{{\mathtt{300}}}{{\mathtt{110}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{30}}}{{\mathtt{11}}}} = {\mathtt{2.727\: \!272\: \!727\: \!272\: \!727\: \!3}}$$ 

 

This is 2.727.... hours or 2hours and 0.727*60 minutes or 2 hours and 44 minutes to the nearest minute.
