Let x be the amount of apples in kilos

Then 180 - x  = the amount of pears in kilos

And 1/3 of the total amount = 60 kilos.....so....

(3/8) x    +   (3/10) (180 - x)  = 60       multiply through by the common denominator of 8 and 10, i.e., 40.....and we have

15x + 12(180 - x)   =  2400    simplify

15x  + 2160 - 12x   = 2400

3x   = 2400 - 2160

3x =  240     divide both sides by 3

x = 80    this is the kilos of apples

180 - 80  = 100    this is the kilos of pears

cool cool cool
