We can start by finding squares of different sizes:

 

Squares of side length 1 (small): 16

Squares of size length 3 (normal): 4

 

Squares of size length 4 (normal) 1 (the entire thing! :D)

 

The total would be 16 + 19 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 49 squares :D
