Lots and lots of practice and make sure you understand all the basics :)

Do all your homework exercises, then just for fun find another textbook and do some practice exercises from it, too! 

By choosing the exercises you do, rather than all the time doing only what the teacher sets you to do, you are taking control of your learning, and in no time at all you'll realize that you have come to own that subject. Make it yours!!!!
