I'm having trouble doing this do you mind if you help? 

3(2x-4)=8

3(2x-4) = 8         first ....distribute the 3 across the terms in the parentheses

6x - 12  = 8     we want the term with the "x" by itself... so... add 12 to both sides

6x   =  20         divide both sides by 6

x = 20 /6  =  14 / 3
