How do you solve an equation such as
-x+2y=7? i don't understand it at all...

-x+2y=7

1) 2y = x + 7
2) y = x/2 + 7/2

Now all you have to do is plug in random numbers for x to find the value of y

To solve this you need 2 equations with x and y.
For example you should easy solve something like this, for x: 5x-2=13.

  • Add 2 to both sides: 5x-2+2=13+2 => 5x=15[/*:m]
  • Divide both sides by 5: 5x/5=15/5 => x=3[/*:m]
