how to you calculate acceleration equals change in velocity over time taken

Acceleration = Change in velocity over time.

 

So if you start with a velocity of 5m/s and finish 60 seconds later with a velocity of 8m/s

 

Then your average acceleration over this time was     (8-5)/60  m/s^2    = 1/20 m/s^2
