   If one of the factors of the number under the radical is a     

   perfect square, you can take it out from under the radical.     

 

   examples      sqrt(12)  =  sqrt(4 • 3)   =  sqrt(2² • 3)  =  2 • sqrt(3)     

                        sqrt(18)  =  sqrt(9 • 2)   =  sqrt(3² • 2)  =  3 • sqrt(2)     

                        sqrt(75)  =  sqrt(25 • 3)  =  sqrt(5² • 3)  =  5 • sqrt(3)
