x=-4

please why is x -4?????

$$\\12=\frac{20-4x}{3}\\
$mult both sides by 3$\\
36=20-4x\\
$subtract 20 from both sides$\\
16=-4x\\
$divide both sides by -4$\\
x=-4$$

 

check answer

right hand side (RHS)

= (20-4*-4)/3

= (20--16)/3

=(20+16)/3

=36/3

=12

= LHS  (Left hand side)
