Definitions:

 

hyperbolic sine:   sinh(x) = (ex - e-x)/2    (pronounced shine!)

 

hyperbolic cosine:  cosh(x) = (ex + e-x)/2

 

hyperbolic tangent:   tanh(x) = (ex - e-x)/(ex + e-x)   (pronounced tansh!)
