@cphill please help Write a system of equations to describe the situation below, solve using any method, and fill in the blanks.
A camp counselor for a summer day camp sometimes buys lunch for her campers at a nearby fast food restaurant. On Monday, she purchased 4 hamburger kid meals and 3 chicken nugget kid meals, for a total of $23. On Thursday, she spent $34 on 2 hamburger kid meals and 6 chicken nugget kid meals. How much does each type of meal cost?
Each hamburger meal costs $___, and each chicken nugget meal costs $___.
Let x be the cost of the hamburger meal and y be the cost ofthe chicken nugget meal
We have this system
4x + 3y = 23 (1)
2x + 6y = 34 divide through by 2 ⇒ x + 3y = 17 ⇒ x = 17 - 3y (2)
Sub (2) into (1) for x
4 ( 17 - 3y) + 3y = 23
68 - 12y + 3y = 23
68 - 9y = 23
9y = 68 -23
9 y = 45
y = 45/9 = 5 (dollars ) = cost of chicken nuggets meal
x = 17 - 3(5) = 17 -15 = 2 (dollars) = cost of hamburger meal
