Move all terms containing xx to the left side of the inequality.

Tap for less steps...

Since xx contains the variable to solve for, move it to the left side of the inequality by subtracting xx from both sides.

2x−5−x>−22⁢x-5-⁢x>-2

Subtract xx from 2x2⁢x to get xx.

x−5>−2x-5>-2

Move all terms not containing xx to the right side of the inequality.

Tap for less steps...

Since −5-5 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right side of the inequality by adding 55 to both sides.

x>5−2x>5-2

Subtract 22 from 55 to get 33.

x>3

First get everything one side

x^2-2x-5=0

x^2-2x = 5         Take 1/2 of the 'x' coefficient and square it and add it to both sides

x^2 - 2x +1 = 5 + 1

(x-1)^2 = 6

x-1 = +-sqrt 6

x= 1 + sqrt 6     and  1- sqrt 6
