okay so i needed to simplify:

$$(c + c\sqrt{c})(c + 7\sqrt{3c})$$

$$c^2 + 7c\sqrt{3c} + c^2\sqrt{c} + 7c\sqrt{3c^2}$$

in the textbook, the last part is actually $$7c^2 \sqrt{3}$$

how did they get this answer?

You almost have it!

$$7c\sqrt{3c^2}\,=\,7c\sqrt3\sqrt{c^2} \,=\,7c\sqrt3\,*\,c \,=\,7c^2\sqrt3$$
