According to the Americans With Disabilities Act, a ramp can rise no more than 1 ft for every 12 ft of horizontal distance. To the nearest tenth degree what is the maximum angle that the ramp can form with the ground?

 

arctan=(1/12) but i still dont get it

It is not arctan=(1/12) that doesn't make sense.

It is arctan(1/12) = the angle that you want.

It is either 

tan(angle)=ratio

ot

arctan(raio)=angle

You have the correct set up....just make sure your calculator is in degree mode......your answer will reflect some angle......
