Solve for x:
(2 (x-4))/5 = 1/2

Multiply both sides of (2 (x-4))/5 = 1/2 by 5/2:
((5×2 (x-4))/(2))/(5) = (5/2)/2

(5/2)/2 = 5/(2×2):
(5×2 (x-4))/(2×5) = 5/(2×2)

(5×2 (x-4))/(2×5) = (2×5)/(2×5)×(x-4) = x-4:
x-4 = 5/(2×2)

2×2  =  4:
x-4 = 5/4

Add 4 to both sides:
x+(4-4) = 5/4+4

4-4 = 0:
x = 5/4+4

Put 5/4+4 over the common denominator 4. 5/4+4  =  5/4+(4×4)/4:
x = 5/4+(4×4)/4

4×4  =  16:
x = 5/4+16/4

5/4+16/4  =  (5+16)/4:
x = (5+16)/4

5+16 = 21:
Answer: |  x = 21/4
