OK....let's do this as follows

(5x -2) * (5x -2)  take both the terms in the first parentheses and distribute each over the terms in the second set of parentheses.....so we have....

5x(5x - 2)     - 2(5x - 2)

[25x^2 - 10x]    [-10x + 4]

So......combining like terms, we have

25x^2 - 10x - 10x + 4  =

25x^2 -20x + 4

Think about this....

3^2   = 3 * 3

So

(5x - 2)^2    must be   (5x - 2) * (5x - 2)   ... and using "FOIL" we have

25x^2 - 10x - 10x + 4   simpliify

25x^2 - 20x + 4
