I have a question that i'm confused about......

Find the next term of the following sequence.

9, 6, 4, ...

2

8/3

3

I know the answer is 8/3 but why can't it not be 3?

Here is how I got 3

9-6=3

6-4=2

4-x=1

x=3

The order goes from 3,2,1

9, 6,  4

We can find the common ratio  as

Succssive Term  / Previous Term

So.using the first two terms, we have

6 / 9   =    2 / 3   = common ratio

So....the next term after 4  is    4(2/3)   =  8/3
